Virgin

316824063_169267035733386_1098138730204647518_n.jpg

This is a reminder courtesy. And no, it’s not a joke.

During the Christmas season, the word VIRGIN is going to get thrown around. A lot. And even though your student may have been around church a lot or a little, and even though they may watch a lot of TV and content that explains a lot, there are still some terms they may have questions about.

I guarantee VIRGIN is one of them.

So before someone gets up and reads the passage in Luke 1 where it says “…to a virgin engaged to a man named Joseph, of the house of David…” and someone throws up their hand to ask the crowd “What’s a virgin?” please do me a solid.

Explain what a virgin is to your twelve year old.

In fact, let’s go ahead and start “the talk” with your student if you haven’t yet. They’re 11 or 12 by this point. They should know. And guess what? Christmas is a great time to explain that to them. It comes up naturally!

Why was Jesus’ birth such a big deal? Mary asked the question herself a few verses later: “Mary asked the angel, ‘How can this be, since I have not had sexual relations with a man?’”

There’s your starting point for how bodies work and babies are born and all of that.

Sure it’s awkward to talk to your kids about sex.

It’s way more awkward for me to talk to your kids about sex in a room full of other pre-teens and teenagers.

So, thanks in advance for telling your student what a virgin is.

You’re doing us both a favor. 😂😂

A 2-WEEK SERIES FROM THE OLD TESTAMENT & GOSPELS ON CHRISTMAS

SERIES OVERVIEW:

Christmas is almost here! Which means there’s a lot for us to look forward to — sometimes impatiently. But you know the saying, “good things come to those who wait”? It’s true for Christmases now, but it was true on the very first Christmas as well. You see, the day Jesus came to earth wasn’t a sudden surprise. It was the first step in a long-awaited plan. In this 4-week series, we’ll hear the Christmas story from the perspective of the prophets in the Old Testament, who foretold and then waited for the good things God had in store. Christmas is a reminder of what the prophets proclaimed: that God has always had a plan, that Jesus completes God’s plan, that God’s plans bring joy, and that God’s plans require sacrifice.

11TH-12TH GRADE GIRLS SMALL GROUP LEADER

817.319.8607 / [email protected]

Leslie grew up at Hallmark and went through HSM in the same building we currently meet. She is currently working 3 part time jobs, while also studying to get her Master's in Counseling at Dallas Theological Seminary. So sleep and caffeine have been her best friends recently.

Leslie's love for her high school girls is evident, as she tries to impart her wisdom and advice from her time at HSM. None of her girls leave not knowing that she has listened and cared about their small group discussion. We're thankful to have Leslie on our team for her heart and passion for the Lord. Thanks, Leslie!!!
